Hawaiian Eye Foundation  Imperial City Eye Meeting – Viet Nam Gallery

Hawaiian Eye Foundation’s Imperial City Eye Meeting (ICEM) in Viet Nam is now the largest eye surgical training program in Asia.

During a cataract training trip to Hue City, Viet Nam in 2004, Foundation President Dr. John Corboy was asked by leaders of the Eye Department of Hue Central Hospital if Hawaiian Eye Foundation would support the creation of an eye surgical training program in Viet Nam.

Thus in 2006, in coordination with Hue Central Hospital, we began the Imperial City Eye Meeting, a biennial conference where volunteer surgeons from around the world lecture and demonstrate advanced eye surgical techniques to Vietnamese ophthalmologists.

Through lectures and one-on-one wet lab microscopic training sessions on pigs’ eyes, over 1000 Vietnamese eye surgeons have been trained to date, benefiting innumerable Vietnamese patients.

Imperial City Eye Meeting IV is scheduled for April 2012 in Hue City, Viet Nam. Please help us offer this unique training opportunity at no cost to Vietnamese physician trainees by serving as a volunteer » or donor ». or corporate exhibitor »
